The Robert E. Kennedy Library at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) seeks a creative, collaborative, and proactive librarian for the tenure-track position of College Librarian for Engineering. College Librarians play a key role in Cal Poly’s educational mission by having a strong presence in their assigned colleges. They build and maintain close relationships with students and faculty in order to meet their teaching, learning, research, and publication needs by connecting them to the library’s services, content, and tools.
Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Academic Services, the Engineering Librarian develops and leads the services and programs, as well as selects relevant information resources, to support the unique curricular and research needs of the college’s students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include instruction and research assistance, outreach and liaison services, collection development, and programmatic support activities. The CENG Librarian works collaboratively in these roles with the other librarians and library staff.
Librarians at Cal Poly hold faculty status and are expected to demonstrate outstanding professional performance; engage in professional development, research, scholarship, and creative activities; participate in service to the library, the university, the California State University system, and/or the community; and contribute to a collegial and productive work environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only)

Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent advanced degree
  • Three years of relevant experience
  • Ability to articulate a genuine enthusiasm for this position

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to employ effective interpersonal skills to form strong connections with faculty and students

    Preferred Qualifications / Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to design, promote, and deliver library instruction and research assistance
  • Knowledge of STEM-focused information literacy, library instruction, and reference services
  • Experience in developing and managing collections for STEM-related disciplines
  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Experience in an engineering-related position or discipline
  • Education, coursework, or licensing in a relevant field
