Hello and happy new year to all SLA San Diego members!
As the new SLA San Diego Chapter President, I wanted to reach out and introduce myself as well as remind members of some upcoming events. I know that this year will bring many opportunities to network and connect with your San Diego colleagues, and 2016 certainly promises to be an exciting as well as challenging year for SLA.
First, an introduction. Many of you may be surprised to see me in the role of President this year. I was appointed by the 2015 Chapter Board to fill the vacancy created by Eileen Schnur’s resignation. As such, I haven’t had the chance to work with many of you recently, but I look forward to working closely in 2016. The President role is one that I have filled before (2011), and although times have changed, I look forward to serving again. On a personal note, I am taking the role at the same time as pursuing a very new career path. After 14 years as Senior Director and head of the Qualcomm Library I am now pursuing several avenues, including my own information consulting business called InfoLiquidity. You can see more by taking a look at the incoming executive board bios on the SLA Chapter website.
So now, for some upcoming dates and events that you should all be aware of:
Leadership Bootcamp (Online, no cost)
January 26th and 27th
The Leadership Bootcamp is designed for SLA members involved or interested in association leadership, but all members are free to attend. It’s a great way to learn more about SLA and its future direction.
Web Chat with SLA President Tom Rink (Online, no cost)
This web chat will allow SLA members to ask questions of leaders about any topics of interest.
SLA San Diego Board Meeting
The first of four Board Meetings will be held in February 2016. Exact time and meeting details to be announced soon. During the meeting, Board members will report on and discuss chapter activities and plans, review finances, and address any new and old business. All are welcome to attend.
Of course this is just the start of what looks to be a very full year of programming and events. Keep checking back on the website frequently!
