TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs and under the functional direction of the Senior Librarian, the Librarian will perform a variety of professional library tasks. The Librarian will operate Central and Satellite libraries as needed, supervise inmate workers in libraries, provide reference service to library patrons, record keeping duties – time cards, disciplinary reports, inmate worker evaluations, maintain worker attendance, assists in book circulation, book acquisitions, book cataloging, book inventory, and library automation in Administrative Segregation, Minimum, Central, and Satellite libraries, maintain constant vigilance and conduct random unscheduled inspections of inmate work areas for potential escape material and contraband, and maintain the interlibrary loan records through both manual and computerized files. Persons appointed to positions in this class must be reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental, and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees or that of inmates. Assignments during tour of duty may include sole responsibility for the supervision of inmates and/or the protection of personal and real property.
